This is where it all began. Over a decade ago, we fell in love with our first barnwood table and haven't looked back!
Each table is hand-crafted from reclaimed barnwood - most often the tabletops are a variation of eastern pine, while the table skirt and legs are often a combination of pine, poplar and hemlock - all wood species common to barn and out-buildings in the mid-late 1800's and into the mid-20th century.
As our images convey, each table top is made up of multiple individual boards that are biscuit joined with an additional bread-board at each long end with fastners & dowels to ensure the stability and integrity of the table surface. Most tabletops will contain some amount of small nail holes (filled and unfilled), dings, worm & beetle marks, knots and divots - rustic charm at its best. As a result, no two tables are ever the same!
Although rustic, the tables are meant for everyday use and have been constructed and finished to this end. Our finishers use a rugged varnish to seal the table from everyday spills (including rings from sweating glasses). Like all wood tables, direct heat is a no-no, so be sure to use a trivet or hot plate when bringing dishes out of the oven.
Scratches and dings will happen, but can be easiliy blended in with common furniture touch up products (our favorite is "Old English Scratch Cover for Dark Woods." This product functions like a dark walnut stain that when applied to a scratch or ding, will make the imperfection look as though it has been there for decades!
Like all of our other barnwood pieces, we presently only offer our standard stain option, which produces rich variations in color to the tabletop (ranging from dark brown to a golden oak - please see pictures). While we do not offer additional staining options for the tabletop, we do offer a variety of painted finishes for the table skirt and legs. We use the Old Village collection of historic country paints that will create an authentic look for your table.
In addition to the standard dimensions offered here on the website, we also gladly welcome custom requests and an increasing number of our tables are made to different lengths, widths and heights, so please send your custom inquiries to our General Manager, Jerry Schlichting at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will gladly offer you a no obligation quote!
